Custom Home for Windward
Investments,
Royal Oak, MD
This project, located
on Maryland's eastern
shore of
the
Cheaspeake Bay, involves conversion of an existing structure
(previously the Bellevue Seafood Company, picture at right) to a
two-story custom
residence. The design parameters are exacting and the site
requirements involve careful calculation of building footprint and
volume. The design utilizes classic elements of
the Tidewater Colonial style historically significant to the
area and region. Every effort
has been made to retain the original shape and form of rooms from
the existing building to sustain historical
signficance. Many of the local homes in the surrounding area
were
built for
the workers of the Bellevue Seafood Company.

The developer, Mr. Dana
Sindermann has lived and worked, building custom homes in the area for
over two
decades. His father, Carl J. Sindermann,PhD, a noted author
and Marine
Biologist has
written many scholarly works on subjects of importance to the area.

(b) When we orignally measured the existing building, we were fortunate
to spend a little time with Tom Sherwood and he was ready and willing
to help us measure and told us many stories about the local life and
about Chesapeake Watermen and the history of the land and the bay.
(c)
The
mechanical room is an amazing feat of engineering which will allow the
house to generate it's own power and as an added plus, it will be able
to generate power for the surrounding neighborhood. A feature
that is
sure to attract attention is the Wind Turbine that will take the place
of the original communications antenna (see third picture in upper
right above).
